Marine Sandblaster / Painter

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Marine Sandblaster / Painter to support a US Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves preparing, restoring and finishing interior and exterior surfaces on marine vessels, equipment and facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Perform abrasive blasting, sanding, scuffing, scraping and grinding to remove rust, corrosion, old coatings and marine growth.
• Apply primers, sealers, paints, stains, varnishes, enamels, epoxies and specialty marine coatings using brushes, rollers and spray equipment.
• Mask surrounding equipment, protect surfaces with drop cloths and tape, and reinstall fixtures after painting.
• Fill cracks, holes and surface imperfections with approved fillers and smooth finished surfaces with sandpaper or power sanding tools.
• Waterproof structures using approved membranes, sealants and caulking materials.
• Read and interpret work orders, technical drawings and specifications to determine project requirements.
• Inspect completed work for compliance with quality and coating specifications.
• Operate and maintain blasting and painting equipment safely and maintain a clean work area.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of experience in paint preparation, abrasive blasting or related field.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport with at least one year remaining and ability to obtain required visas.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain facility credentials.
• Proficiency in reading and comprehending English.
