MWR Supervisor - Sports & Fitness

About the role

The MWR Sports & Fitness Supervisor reports to the MWR Manager and leads the fitness, recreational sports, and aquatics programs for U.S. armed forces at Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti. This role ensures safe, engaging, and well‑maintained facilities for service members and their families.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate all aspects of the fitness program, including orientations and safe technique instruction.
• Schedule and manage dual/individual sports tournaments, team sports, and intramural programs.
• Maintain monthly community, sports, and fitness schedules and health bulletin boards.
• Oversee preventive maintenance of fitness equipment and ensure safety standards.
• Manage the Aquatics facility, staff, and government‑issued equipment inventories.
• Interface with local command officials, host MWR committee meetings, and promote events such as the Captain’s Cup.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen with a 4‑year degree in recreation or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of specialized experience as a middle manager in a similar civilian or MWR setting.
• At least 2 years coordinating organized team sports, fitness, and sports event scheduling.
• Current certifications: individual/group fitness instructor, sports official, American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR/first aid/AED, and a valid passport and driver’s license.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
• Knowledge of sports facilities, turf/field maintenance, and officiating.
• Strong customer service, communication, leadership, and interpersonal abilities.
