About the role
The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking a Programme Assistant on a United Nations Volunteers (UNV) assignment in Djibouti. The role provides essential administrative, logistical and programme support to ensure smooth implementation of health initiatives and effective coordination with national authorities and partners.
Key responsibilities
- Draft, review and process correspondence, reports, meeting notes and official documents.
- Coordinate travel arrangements, including visas, security clearances, flight bookings, accommodation and post‑travel follow‑up.
- Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, track actions and deadlines, and ensure timely follow‑up on priority matters.
- Monitor programme and project implementation through WHO systems, including budget tracking, expenditure monitoring, procurement and payment processing.
- Maintain organized filing systems, databases, technical records and reference materials for planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
- Support the organization of meetings, workshops, seminars, training courses and other events, handling logistics and participant assistance.
- Respond to enquiries, coordinate appointments and keep updated information on government counterparts, partners and stakeholders.
- Provide administrative guidance to colleagues, support office operations and participate in field visits as required.
Required profile
- Secondary education with secretarial or business administration training; a university degree in business administration, social sciences, communication or related field is an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in administration, office management, logistics or programme support.
- Experience within the UN system or an international organization is desirable.
- Strong organisational, filing, time‑management and coordination abilities.
- Fluency in French and English required; working knowledge of Arabic and/or Somali is an asset.
Required skills
- Proficiency in office software (e.g., MS Office).
- Database management skills.
- Experience with administrative systems for budgeting, procurement and reporting.
