Heavy Equipment Mechanic

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic to support a unique U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia. The role involves maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles and equipment to ensure safe, reliable operation for Air Force, Space Force, ARTs, GEODDs, and AMC missions.

Key responsibilities

• Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on Non‑Tactical Vehicles, Weight Handling Equipment, Material Handling Equipment, and other handling equipment.
• Conduct body, fender, and mechanical repairs, ensuring equipment is safe, operational, and presentable.
• Inspect, diagnose, and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic and electrical systems.
• Execute routine preventive tasks such as oil changes, lubrication, and tune‑ups.
• Document all maintenance activities and ensure compliance with military and safety standards.

Required profile

• Minimum two years journeyman‑level experience with heavy equipment maintenance.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid passport (minimum one year) and ability to obtain required visas and security clearances.
• Ability to pass contract medical requirements and maintain facility credentials.
