About the role
The Port Control Tower Watch supports a U.S. Navy program on Diego Garcia, ensuring safe and efficient harbor operations. The role involves coordinating vessel movements, managing docking assignments, and maintaining navigable waterways.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate safe movement of vessels entering, departing, and operating within the harbor.
- Assign docking berths and mooring spaces for commercial, government, and recreational vessels.
- Monitor harbor traffic, maintain navigable channels, and operate marine communication systems.
- Record and track vessel arrivals, departures, and movements; prepare regular activity reports.
- Assist in enforcement of marine regulations and coordinate emergency response requests.
Required profile
- High school diploma or equivalent with at least four years of relevant experience.
- Thorough knowledge of harbor operations, nautical terminology, and maritime calculations.
- Ability to obtain required visas, security clearances, and maintain medical and deployment requirements.
- Valid passport (minimum one‑year validity) and driver’s license.
Required skills
- Proficiency with radio communications and marine communication equipment.
- Strong organizational and record‑keeping abilities.
